The Walking Dead Season 3 Prison Is Making Creator Robert Kirkman Uncomfortable

The Walking Dead Season 3 is debuting on October 14, and AMC is having a blast keeping fans salivating in anticipation of the hit show’s return. Last week, we saw the release of a new poster for the season, and an even better poster celebrating the show’s ten million Facebook fan milestone, paying tribute to the film The Social Network.

Now, AMC is sharing a video tour of the prison, where much of the third season will take place. If you’re familiar with the comics, you’ll know the prison well. The tour is led by none other than Robert Kirkman, the writer and creator of the comics.

“It’s really blowing me away…I never imagined that I would be here standing in this prison,” says Kirkman. “It’s really strange to think about all of the pages coming in from Charlie Adlard – you know, seven, eight years ago – when we were doing the prison storyline in the comic book, and watching the way he drew the prison cells, and all the little nuances and stuff that we put into the comic book prison, and then to see people looking at those comics and taking inspiration from that, and then constructing it in real life, and being able to actually go onto second levels, and walk upstairs, and go in cells and stuff, it is absolutely just completely bizarre.”

“Things that are in comics should never exist in real life,” he adds. “I feel really uncomfortable here.”

The Ricktatorship has its work cut out come season three of AMC’s The Walking Dead.

Following the eventful second-season finale that saw Hershel’s farm go up in flames and Rick and company hit the road in search of a new home, the not-so-merry band of survivors will have to prepare for a massive battle if they plan to set up shop at the prison.

Hershel (Scott Wilson), now out of the relative safety of the farm, is in for quite a rude awakening, noting that “Christ promised a resurrection in mind … I just thought he had something different in mind.”

Showrunner Glen Mazzara recently told THR that this season, everyone — including Hershel and his daughter Beth — will feel a need to be a “valuable part of the team” and contribute. “If I don’t get this done, if I don’t kill that walker, that walker may kill someone else,” he said. “So everybody bonds together for the good of the group. They all have each other’s backs.”

“The pace seems very different this year and I think it’s just a lot more suspenseful, it’s lot more intense than it was last year,” he added.

10 SECOND TEASER CLIPS

When season 1 of The Walking Dead came to a close, fans were left unsure of where the series was headed. After heavily deviating from the comic book’s canon, the producers of the show made it very apparent they were on their own track.

With season 3, however, fans know the show is working towards some really exciting territory, and are about to experience storylines that more closely mirror Robert Kirkman’s graphic novel. Characters like Michonne and the Governor – fan favorites we’d been hoping would get thrown in the mix – are now being brought to life, and figuring heavily into this forthcoming season.

To help get fans prepared for the show’s return this October, a new TV spot has been released. While it’s extremely light on…well, anything, it does tease a suspenseful season 3 for Rick Grimes. In it, Rick appears to be scoping out an enclosed space, perhaps in an abandoned house, and what he finds cannot possibly be good:

We know that after establishing his role as leader of the group (Ricktatorship?) in the season 2 finale, Grimes and his band of survivors will be making their way to the prison – a key location in the comics – but how they will get there is unclear. And then, once they discover the seemingly abandoned prison, it’s going to be interesting to see what the group discovers inside its walls.

Obviously, as has been shown in a few set photos from The Walking Dead season 3, there will be zombies, but how some of the series’ new characters will come into play – including those that were created specifically for the show – hasn’t been detailed. It’s already been teased that a major character will not survive season 3, but as we learned last season, there’s never just one death.

Along with the introduction of Michonne and the Governor, season 3 will also reintroduce audiences to the character of Merle Dixon, whom last we saw in some pretty dire straits. Towards the tail end of season 2, some hints were delivered that suggested Merle was alive; since then, the casting of Michael Rooker and a new magazine cover confirm it.

There are plenty of surprises in store for viewers of The Walking Dead season 3; however, this time there also are a few expected places the series appears to be headed towards. Those looking to know more can anticipate additional details, and more TV spots, as we near the season’s premiere.

The Walking Dead begins season 3 on October 14th at 9pm on AMC.

Hyundai’s Zombie Survival Machine

Hyundai is looking toward the future.

Unfortunately it’s a bleak future, where humanity is on the verge of extinction brought upon by the Zombie Apocalypse, but, hey, you’ve got to plan for everything, right?

The automaker has teamed up with the creator of the “The Walking Dead” comic book series, Robert Kirkman, to create a Zombie Survival Machine based on its new Elantra Coupe, which will be unveiled at San Diego Comic Con on July 11th.

The car was designed by Kirkman who tapped a decade of experience vanquishing zombies to come up with the key protective features of the vehicle. These include a spiked cow catcher for plowing through slow-moving zombie mobs, spinning blades protruding from the wheel hubs, slotted metal plates protecting the windows and a metal fence that pops up around the sunroof opening to create a protected firing position. The car runs on all-terrain rally style tires for high speed driving and has an old-school CB radio to communicate with other survivors.

Talk about safety as a selling point.

Zombie culture has reached apocalyptic levels in recent years, with dozens of best-selling books, a TV version of The Walking Dead, and Brad Pitt’s upcoming film, World War Z on the way. Although we hope that the Zombie Survival Machine will ever need to go into production, an illustrated version of it will appear in the 100th issue of “The Walking Dead,” where Hyundai hopes it will connect with fans and send hordes into its showrooms.

The Walking Dead Exclusive First Look: David Morrissey Makes His Debut as The Governor

The Governor has arrived!

The third season of The Walking Dead will feature the introduction of one of the most formidable villains on the AMC series: The Governor (David Morrissey), a character fromRobert Kirkman‘s graphic novels who is the vicious leader of Woodbury, a small settlement of survivors. TVGuide.com has the exclusive first look at The Governor, who also becomes one of Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) greatest foes in the comic series.

Walking Dead Postmortem: Which new character holds the key to the group’s future?

“Seeing The Walking Dead come to life on AMC has been a real thrill for me, obviously, and moving into Season 3 I’m even more excited than ever because now I feel like we’re really getting to ‘the good stuff,'” Kirkman tells TVGuide.com. “Having The Governor in the mix is going to fundamentally change the show in all kinds of awesome and exiting ways. And David Morrissey totally rocks!”

For those worried that AMC might be a diluted version of the villain who went on to take something, ahem, very important away from Rick in the comics, fear not! The Governor in the show is definitely going to be The Governor in the comic,” Kirkman told us following the Season 2 finale. “I think that he’s definitely going to be a character that people love to hate and are absolutely entertained by, but also somewhat terrified of. He’s definitely going to be a very important character and a very nuanced character. We are not going to be watering him down.”

Are you excited for the introduction of The Governor?
